Synth Oasis

3D animation

"Synth Oasis" refers to an artificially created refuge or a mirage-like haven that doesn’t truly exist. The city in this story is LA, and I projected my persona onto the protagonist.

At one point, LA felt like a mirage to me, so I twisted this perception by making the protagonist a white male. As he crossed the desert to reach the city, he felt an increasing sense of alienation. Beneath the glittering buildings, he found an underbelly filled with unmoving, holographic figures of different races.

This isolation within a bustling city plays a central role in the narrative. Through this project, I also learned to use Unreal Engine to align with the gaming industry.

Style Frame

Character Development

I aimed to develop my own character and convey his emotions through subtle facial expressions. Inspired heavily by cyberpunk-style clothing, I brought this vision to life using Character Creator 4.0.

World Building with Unreal Engine

I thoroughly enjoyed working with the real-time render view—it was truly fascinating. I particularly loved crafting the lighting to build the atmosphere, and creating the rain effect was one of my favorite parts of the process. The overall colors were desaturated to create a vibrant yet dark atmosphere.

World Building with Clarisse

I constructed the city using not only Unreal Engine but also Clarisse.

Shot Breakdown

I used Maya for world-building and completed color grading and editing using DaVinci Resolve and Nuke.
